English-the new approach

Throughout my 4 years programme, I’m required to study a few of the non-related subjects to Aerospace and this includes Kenegaraan Malaysia, Tamadun Islam & Asia, and Oral Interaction Skills. I’m going to emphasized on Oral interaction skills which I’ve found out that it’s a new thing to me after my life long learning on English. One of the things I’ve learnt so far in our English is to speak or to pronounce words better. You might wonder why we are learning to speak English again but frankly speaking it’s quite new if you are not considered expert in English. Have anyone seen these symbols ΛΩəɳǽƱ in the dictionary, if you are expert in English then you are really good in English, what we call is English expert ‘tahap dewa’. It’s actually the phonetic symbols and it is used in English pronunciations.
Weird and it’s indeed weird, each symbols represents one sound like ph, th, bla..bla. Anyway, after all the tongue twist throughout the lesson, I must admit that I still prefer the English at it is, those symbols are actually found in the dictionary and it helps you in pronouncing those words..better…I seldom noticed those symbols and I only read the words from what I’ve found out. Seriously, I don’t really like that but what can I do but to study that for the whole semester.
Not only that, our lecturer even taught us on how to speak better with certain words in the sentence are emphasized and speaks aloud with louder voice, It’s word stressing…
For example:
“SHE loves chocolate.”
“She LOVES chocolate.”
“She loves CHOCOLATE.”
Or even this
“EXCUSE ME, COULD you TELL me WHERE the ADMIN BUILDING is?
(Try to read those words that are put into capital letters with higher tone..)
The whole class eventually turns into a place where everyone speaks English so differently that you can hear they speak with softer voice then turns loud then softer again on different words on the sentence….weird weird weird

Last but not least, yesterday I’ve attended the first lesson on Kenegaraan and Tamadun Islam & Asia (TITAS). Both classes are really boring and the lecturers make themselves like talking to themselves without much interaction with the students. Somehow or rather, these classes are made during the lunch break and after office hours which is 12noon and 5pm. So, it’s actually a time where people tend to sleep during the lectures or do not pay attention to it. The lecturers told us that they have no choice but to put it during the time as students have to go for other more important courses in the other time, those courses that are related to their programme, consider as core subjects lah. I must say that our lectures are quite experience especially our lecturer in Kenegaraan Malaysia. Respect him as he can mentions the exact date of certain events in the history, like when James Brooke attacked Rentap at Bukit Sadok. Remarkable. What can we do, he’s a prof mah. For TITAS, the lecturer act as if she is the propaganda machine who talk something that really on why Malaysian don’t have identity and so on. From my opinion both lecturers should have switch as the other lecturer are good in History should teach TITAS and the lecturer that can act as if she is propaganda machine should teach Kenegaraan. Duh….what a different.
By the way, I’m having problem with my decision on whether I want to buy a book which is largely related to Aerospace Industries (it’s an Aerospace Dictionary) and to my surprise it costs around RM319… this book can be found in MPH bookstore. Should I buy it? For your info, if I bought it, much of my money left will be gone like that…should I sacrifice?
